Dwight C. Escalera SAMSŪ AMS #1024 Principal Surveyor
Dwight has a lifelong passion for boats of all types, especially sailing and has raced sailboats in local and national competition since high school. He is also an experienced delivery captain for power and sailing yachts, and was the captain of the tender for Courageous during the 1983 America's cup campaign.
After working for many years building boats for several
respected Rhode Island builders he was awarded the status of Surveyor
Associate in the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors and after only
two years was invited to sit for and pass the accreditation exam earning
the title Accredited Marine Surveyor. He is also certified as a Master
Technician by ABYC and is the only person to be certified in all areas
offered by ABYC. As a measure of the respect other industry leaders have
for his knowledge, experience and commitment to improving the marine
industry, Dwight was invited to serve on the ABYC, Project Technical
Committee. To pass on his experience and training, Dwight teaches all
facets of boatbuilding, writes infomational articles for boating
magazines, and presents technical seminars.
In addition to his marine experience, Dwight has a degree in mechanical engineering and has spent many years working outside the marine industry, designing and building automated industrial machinery.
Dwight has over two decades experience designing, installing and updating components and systems in modern yachts from 20' to 65', both power and sail, in compliance with ABYC, CFR (USCG), and NFPA standards for American markets and CE Mark standards for European markets.
Most recently, Dwight was asked to teach the ABYC classes for certification of technicians.
